Helping you to achieve your goals
There are times in all of our lives when we experience difficulties. We may feel as though we are struggling to stay afloat as waves of stress, conflict, or pain threaten to overwhelm us and pull us under. While we may not be able to stop the waves, counselling can help us to discover strategies and make changes that will not only help us stay afloat, but increase our sense of strength and confidence to manage whatever comes our way.
Counselling is a collaborative process that begins with identifying your goals and clarifying a plan to help you achieve what you want out of life. These plans can be adjusted at any time to best meet your needs and to manage any barriers that may be getting in the way.
Building on your unique strengths
We all possess strengths, resilience, and wisdom. However, sometimes our circumstances are so overwhelming it may become difficult to access our strengths, or our strengths may become buried under unhelpful messages we have learned from our society, our relationships, or other difficult experiences. Counselling can help to uncover and build upon your unique sources of strength and wisdom.
Enhancing insight and increasing self-compassion
Many of us have learned to be extremely hard on ourselves and may even think we need to beat ourselves up in order to motivate ourselves, achieve goals, or try to prevent bad outcomes. However, being harshly self-critical can backfire, leading to less productivity and an increase in unhelpful coping behaviours or problems with mood and anxiety. Counselling can help us to gain insight into where we learned this tendency to criticize ourselves and how it is impacting our day-to-day life. Furthermore, we can learn how to reduce self-criticism and instead learn how to be more compassionate to ourselves. Recent scientific research has demonstrated many benefits to self-compassion, including: increases in motivation, productivity, and overall well-being, to name just a few.
